The policy of a motor cycle expired on 30th May 2011. The insured put a claim of theft on 15th June 2011 stating the theft of vehicle on 25th May 2011. In his support, he produced a intimation copy to the police, stating vehicle lost on 25th May 2011. Police just made a stamp without any date. The FIR of subject vehicle was made simultaneously with other four vehicles dated 10th June 2011. During my investigation in police station, I found no record of exact date of intimation to police by insured and police could not make any satisfactory answer why the common FIR was made for five vehicles and delay of FIR. (in FIR, occurrence of all thefts mentioned is between 25th May 2011 to 10th June 2011.)
The insured made a excuse that he was away for some domestic job for 20 days and also waiting for FIR copy.
Please advice whether the claim is admissible or not.

In my oinion, if the insured has already reported the police about the theft of the vehicle before 30th May 2011 & police either issued an acknowledgement of the report then there is some meaning of claiming the insurance claim under intimation to police.Otherwise it has no meaning.

Dear Mr. Ashok Kr.Singh
Apart from police report, you can also verify from neighbor hood about genuineness of loss date.If case is genuine he must be indemnified irrespective of police carelessness of not mentioning date in intimation letter while affixing stamp. Apart from that final poloce report will indicate date of loss.
